“We first aim to redefine zones and create a visual impact right from the entrance. This can involve elements as simple as a toilet concealed within the bathroom, or a countertop with its underside clad in LED strip lighting or slats. The idea is to create a space that is functional, fluid, and impressive from the very first glance upon entering.”

All About Light

Light profoundly influences Maison Nyckel’s choices. It reveals textures, nuances colors, and transforms the perception of a space.

“Light transforms space and highlights textures and colors. Depending on the exposure and intensity, we choose materials that react well to light, such as richly grained woods, stones with subtle veining, or lightly textured surfaces. During renovations, if the project allows, we sometimes suggest enlarging windows to maximize natural light. We also select well-designed pivoting recessed lights to highlight specific areas, as well as LED strips and quality decorative light fixtures that enhance the ambiance and reveal the materials to their full potential when thoughtfully placed.”

Light plays an essential role beyond visibility. It structures space and brings warmth to Maison Nyckel’s minimalist interiors.

“In a minimalist interior, it’s crucial to add contrasting and subtle textures to avoid a flat look. Using high-quality porcelain or textured melamine adds depth and visual richness. This breathes life into the space without overwhelming it, while remaining minimal and refined, all in a delicate and elegant way.”

“Tiles can become an element of texture and visual rhythm in a minimalist space. Depending on their size, color, and finish, they bring depth and dimension while remaining discreet. When chosen carefully, they complement other materials and contribute to a warm and inviting atmosphere, going beyond their practical function.”

Sizes, finishes, textures: every decision is carefully considered to support the overall design without ever overwhelming the space. Stone-effect tiles integrate particularly well with this approach, adding depth and balance without dominating the space. Among other tips from Maison Nyckel:

“Opt for matte or slightly textured tiles, sometimes large for a contemporary effect, sometimes smaller to create rhythm. It’s also important to consider maintenance and safety, so avoid glossy tiles on the floor.”
