DIY Fireplace : A comfort zone designed by Daphné Morin

In her century‑old condo, with exposed concrete ceilings and beautiful large windows, Daphné imagined a warm and comforting spot — a place where the light would dance, even without real flames. A DIY fireplace designed as a grounding moment in the room, a small refuge.

And that’s exactly what she created.

With leftover wood, carefully chosen candles, and the perfect tile selection, she built a corner that feels entirely like her: soft, calming, and full of character.

A DIY project far from ordinary

« I could already picture a massive Christmas tree… and a faux fireplace right beside it. »

Even before she moved in, she had the entire scene in mind. But once she placed the vintage fireplace mantle she had found, the proportions didn’t work at all. Too small, too odd in the space.

« So I ended up building my own structure with materials I already had at home. »

The power of the tiles

What truly defines this DIY fireplace is the tile choice. Daphné chose the Cosy Cottage tile, with its handcrafted look and soft texture.

« I fell in love with two tiles in the store. I finally went with the one that felt the most timeless and subtly charming. »

A thoughtful crush that gives the fireplace a chic, authentic look and that blends beautifully with her condo’s raw yet refined aesthetic.

All about candles

No functional fireplace? No problem. Daphné chose candles to stand in for the flame.

«The dancing light of the candles creates a nearly magical atmosphere. »

She plays with height, colors, and shapes. The result becomes a gentle, hypnotic display, especially as evening falls. Proof that a DIY fireplace can add warmth without actual heat.

A simple and inspiring experience with La Tuilerie

« My dad told me about La Tuilerie a long time ago. I’ve been going back ever since. »

What makes her stay? The attentive service, the range of unique tile collections, and the quality of advice even when things get a bit technical.

« They helped me so much—even with a more complex heated flooring system. I always feel like they really listen. »

An easy collaboration, like we love to experience!

The final result

« It’s my favorite spot in the whole condo. »

The mix of tile, microcement, soft light and custom woodwork makes this space feel calm, balanced, and simply peaceful.

« I won’t be able to take this fireplace with me If I move one day… but I know I’ll build something like it again. »
